I drove down to the Gold Coast to see my boyfriend for the first time in two months, a very happy reunion! It was his birthday the next day and to celebrate he booked us a romantic getaway to The Mouse House Rainforest Retreat in the Springbrook hinterland.
We found The Mouse House nestled at the top of a mountain in World Heritage listed rainforest.
Just like an enchanted forest the chalets were named after the seven dwarfs, ours was Sneezy (so glad we didn’t get grumpy!). Surrounded by ancient forest, our cosy wood cabin included a fireplace and hot tub. We brought our own bubbly and chocolates, so romantic 🙂
Being in the rainforest was magical, birdsong floated through the air, freshwater springs bubbled up along the path to our cabin and ancient trees surrounded us with their mossy branches.
We had a couple of visitors in the form of inquisitive scrub turkeys and a carnivorous(!) possum which helped himself to a piece of salmon from our bbq.
We went exploring on a 2 hour bushwalk through spectacular scenery and had a close encounter with a waterfall.
It felt like time stood still in our little chalet, just the two of us and a roaring fire. Eventually we had to drive back down the mountain, taking some wonderful new memories with us.
Recommendation: Get away from it all with a stay at The Mouse House, a magical, romantic rainforest retreat
