Meet Geisha

September 13, 2018 By EatWellTravelOften 2 Comments

I’d like to introduce my new best friend. She’s silver on the outside and plush tan velour with faux walnut wood on the inside. She talks to me in Japanese, so I call her Geisha. Geisha is a 2005 Toyota Estima, an eight seater people mover. She’s an automatic, with 85,000kms on the clock and is immaculate inside. When I’m driving her, it’s like sitting on a big comfy couch, so darn comfortable – she rides smooth (unlike say, a Toyota hiace) and high (I love a high perch when driving). I … [Read more...]

My photographer buddy @imagjen_ and I went exploring the Scenic Rim recently, two gals who love taking pics and eating good food – road trip woohoo!! It was such an incredible weekend that Madeline was inspired to dedicate a whole photo series to the Scenic Rim… and I launched a new Instagram account to showcase all the amazing foodie experiences out there (follow along at @tastescenicrim). I’m going to share my itinerary so you can plan your own weekend escape (OK, technically it’s a … [Read more...]

Tips for driving from Adelaide to Coober Pedy

April 2, 2016 By EatWellTravelOften 22 Comments

The road stretches in a straight line to the horizon where it disappears under the silver shimmer of heat waves... a road trip through the Australian outback is the only way you can truly appreciate the size of this humungous country. It’s over 800kms from Adelaide to Coober Pedy and I was Designated Driver and unofficial Tour Manager for our special mother-daughter desert adventure. Flying from Brisbane, we collected our hire car at Adelaide airport, (convenient and easy), set ourselves … [Read more...]

Are you a food tourist? Then you’re in the right place…welcome to my blog

I'm Shannon, a not-so-flightless Kiwi, living in Australia. I'm busy makin memories... and doing my bit for regional food tourism. Here's one for your sweet tooth - marshmallow gyoz Here's one for your sweet tooth - marshmallow gyoza! Yep, these are brand new on the menu at @harajukugyoza !! They came about when the #harajukugyoza team were kicking around new ideas during the covid lockdown... ( I think I should change career and work in food development... #tastingdepartment 😁). I'm a big marshmallow fan, used to make it when I was a kid. Love the Kiwi Pinky bars and the marshmallow Easter eggs... until now there was a serious #marshmallow deficiency here in Oz! Crunch one of these crispy gyozas and let the melted goodness oooze... remember to dip in the nutella sauce first!! They will leave you wanting s'more!!

Spent a wonderful day at a writers workshop by #Kr Spent a wonderful day at a writers workshop by #KristinaOlsson, award winning Australian writer, journalist and teacher. The topic was 'writing your memoir' and Kristina shared her poignant experience writing her own memoir, the book Boy, Lost.
The workshop was held outside under some huge fig trees in the beautiful grounds of the historic and very grand homestead #JimbourHouse. The #WordsOutWest #writersfestival has been awesome.... I'm thinking it would be great to organise a mini van to bring a bunch of gals out to enjoy it next year. Even if you dont consider yourself a writer I guarantee you will enjoy the inspiring stories. DM me if youd be interested for next year!
