Sunspace Café is the best kept secret on the Sunshine Coast
If you’re heading to the Sunshine Coast any time soon I recommend taking some time out to visit Sunspace, a joyous little café I discovered last time I was in town.
Recommended by a local, it is located in a fantastic old building that was formerly a German restaurant. The setting is beautiful, with lots of room both inside and out, a beautiful garden and plenty of grass for kids to run around.
Serving vegetarian, organic food they also have a small shop selling organic grains, fruit and vegetables, milk, honeycomb, tofu, homemade sauerkraut and bread. They also sell homemade soups, ready to take home and eat.
Recycled furniture is dotted around, with lots of little nooks to make your own. I was delighted to see tables-for-one dotted around, as a solo traveler it’s great to see.
I chatted to Tom, one of the owners, about why he started the café…
“We needed to make a living, and we wanted to open an eco-store with a small cafe. Now we’ve found that it’s gone the other way and the café is the main focus. We serve the food we eat, healthy and organic.”
Popular with the locals, Sunspace often host live music events.
It was a sunny Sunday morning when I visited, and I ordered the homemade spelt sourdough crumpets with lemon curd and ricotta – they were divine. Other offering on the menu that day included buckwheat pancakes, chilli beans eggs kale and cornbread, gado gado, and poached eggs.
On their drinks menu they offer coconut water, kombucha, smoothies and slow pressed juices like the Happy Liver – beetroot, carrot, celery, lemon. They make their own almond milk and serve pots of ayurvedic tea.
Biodynamic, organic, seasonal, made and served with love. You can’t really go wrong.
Recommendation: Sunspace is a great place to relax for an hour or three.
Located on the corner of Noosa-Eummundi and Beddington Roads (6 Beddington Rd, Doonan) Sunshine Coast
Check out their Facebook page to see what’s on the menu
It’s located down the bottom of my road and is fascinating. Did you check out all the produce they grow themselves around the cafe. Whenever I eat there it’s like visiting a health retreat for my digestive system, and tastes wonderful. there’s nowhere else that can match it!
‘A health retreat for my digestive system’, what a great way to put it Phae! I can’t wait to go back there.
